Resumake alternatives: NextCV vs Resumake
Resumake: Free open-source LaTeX resume generator — the hosted site at resumake.io has closed. How does it compare to NextCV for tailoring your CV to each job application?
Price at a glance
| Plan | Price | What you get |

What NextCV does that Resumake doesn't
It is live: paste a job posting and get a tailored CV preview free, with no account
AI reads each job posting and rewrites your CV to match it — Resumake printed exactly what you typed
A cover letter written for the same posting comes with every generation
ATS-friendly formatting in the PDF you download
A free, no-signup CV checker to test the finished document before you apply
Where Resumake does well
Was completely free, with no account, no paywall and no watermark
LaTeX typesetting produced exceptionally clean PDFs
Collected no personal data, according to its creator
Open source: its GitHub repository is still public, though it now says the app has been retired; the original source is kept on its v2 branch
Where Resumake falls short
The hosted site at resumake.io has closed — ordinary users have nothing to open
No AI: every word was written by you
No job-description analysis or per-application tailoring
No cover letter builder or interview preparation
The verdict
If you loved Resumake for being free, private and account-free, Reactive Resume is the closest replacement, and an Overleaf CV template is the closest match to its LaTeX look. If you are applying to many jobs and want each CV rewritten for the posting, that is the job NextCV does — preview it free, pay only for the clean PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is Resumake still working?
No. As of 20 October 2026, resumake.io shows a farewell page from its creator saying "Resumake has closed its doors." He says he hopes to hand it to a trustworthy successor and that it would return free and ad-free, though a paid option may be added for newer features. No new maintainer is named yet.
What is the best free alternative to Resumake?
For the same spirit — free, open source, no paywall — use Reactive Resume. For the same LaTeX-typeset look, start from a CV template on Overleaf's free plan. If you want each CV tailored to a job posting, NextCV does that with a free watermarked preview.
Can I still use Resumake by running it myself?
The hosted app is retired, but the README at github.com/saadq/resumake.io says the original application source is preserved on the repo's v2 branch (checked 2026-10-20). If you are comfortable with a Next.js app and a LaTeX toolchain, you can try running your own unmaintained copy; for most people a hosted alternative is quicker.
How do I check my CV after moving off Resumake?
Resumake's farewell page suggests Jobscan and Resume Worded for checking a resume against a job posting. NextCV's CV checker does that free, with no signup and nothing stored: paste your CV and get a score with the fixes that matter.
