Every developer who has called an OpenAI API, fine-tuned a Hugging Face model on a weekend, or completed a fast.ai course has updated their LinkedIn to include "AI" somewhere prominent. The good news is that skepticism creates opportunity. If you have genuinely shipped AI systems to production — if you have handled the grind of real inference latency, unpredictable model outputs, evaluation frameworks, and data pipelines at scale — your CV can stand far apart from the noise. The key is knowing how to demonstrate that on paper.

The single biggest dividing line in AI engineering hiring in 2026 is the gap between people who have experimented with models and people who have shipped them to production. The two experiences are almost entirely different.

Experimenting with models means getting a Jupyter notebook to produce interesting outputs. 3. MLOps and infrastructure. Model training is one piece; everything around it is where most engineering complexity lives. In 4–6 lines, state your primary specialisation (LLM application development, ML platform engineering, computer vision, NLP, recommendation systems), the industries you have served, and the depth marker that sets you apart. Experience section. This is where AI CVs most often fail. Every role should have at least one bullet with a model or system outcome (accuracy, latency, throughput, cost). At least one bullet should describe the evaluation or reliability work, not just the training.
