- How is the score calculated?
- We check for things a recruiter's quick skim would notice: length, leftover template placeholders like "[Company Name]", generic openers such as "To Whom It May Concern", a proper closing line, at least one quantified result, and whether you mention the company or role if you give us one. Each miss costs points.
- Is this the same as an ATS score?
- No. Applicant tracking systems mostly parse resumes, not cover letters, and their scoring is not public. This tool checks the same red flags a human reader would notice in the first ten seconds.
- Is my cover letter stored or sent anywhere?
- No. The check runs in your browser. Your letter and the company/role field are never uploaded, saved or used to train anything.
- What if I don't know the company name yet?
- Leave that field blank — the personalization check is skipped and the rest of the score is unaffected.
