Why this Pharmacist CV works: what shortlisters check first
Current registration, stated plainly
Employers check that you are on the GPhC register before anything else. Say you are a registered pharmacist and offer the number on request, then keep your fitness to practise record clean. A lapsed registration or a gap that you do not explain will stop an application at the first screen.
Volumes and accuracy
Pharmacy managers think in items dispensed, prescriptions checked and errors logged. Give the monthly volume of your branch, your own daily checking load and what happened to near misses after you changed something. Numbers show you can work at pace without losing safety.
Clinical services and prescribing
Pharmacy First, the New Medicine Service, vaccinations and medicine reviews are now core to most community jobs, and hospitals look for ward and reconciliation experience. Name the services you deliver, how many patients you see and what you refer on. If you are training as an independent prescriber, say when you finish.
Governance, audit and controlled drugs
Regulators and superintendents want people who keep records that survive inspection. Mention standard operating procedures you wrote, audits you ran, controlled drug checks and any incidents you handled well. A short line on how you report and learn from errors carries more weight than a general claim about safety.
Leadership and communication
Pharmacists supervise technicians and dispensers and talk to GPs, nurses and patients all day. Show headcount supervised, training you ran and one example of resolving a problem with a prescriber. For a move to hospital or primary care, say what you can offer a multidisciplinary team.

How to write each section of a Pharmacist CV
Profile
Start with registered pharmacist, your sector and years of practice, then add one number such as monthly items or patients seen. End with the role you want. Keep it to four sentences and avoid phrases like passionate about patient care, which every applicant uses.
Experience
List each pharmacy or trust, your title, and three to five bullets with volumes, services and outcomes. Put clinical services before dispensing duties if you apply for a clinical post. Include your pre-registration year only briefly, with the specialties you covered.
Registration and education
Give the MPharm, the university and the class, then the registration line with the GPhC. Add prescribing qualifications and the date you expect to complete them. Put the registration in its own heading so a recruiter finds it in seconds.
Skills
Name the systems and services you use: PMR software, EPS, Pharmacy First, vaccination and so on. Match the wording in the advert. Remove generic items such as communication skills and let your bullets prove them.
Format
Two pages is enough for almost every pharmacist post. Use plain headings, no photograph and no table layouts that applicant systems misread. Save a PDF with your name in the file title and keep dates in the same format throughout.

Common Pharmacist CV mistakes
- Burying the registration, or leaving out that you are on the GPhC register.
- Listing duties such as dispensing medicines without a volume, a service or a result.
- Claiming prescribing rights before you have completed the course and been annotated.
- Leaving unexplained gaps between pre-registration and your first registered post.
- Using a general CV for hospital posts that gives no ward, reconciliation or clinical experience.

Pharmacist CV FAQ
What should a pharmacist CV include?
A short profile, your registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, work history with volumes and services, education, training and skills. Add safeguarding and immunisation training and any prescribing qualification. Two pages is enough.
Should I put my GPhC number on my CV?
Say that you are registered with the GPhC and offer the number on request. Employers verify registration on the public register anyway. Sharing the number in a document that circulates widely adds little and gives away personal information.
How do I move from community pharmacy to a hospital role?
Lead with clinical work: screening, interventions, medicine reviews and reconciliation. Mention any hospital placement, audit or antimicrobial work. Show you can work in a multidisciplinary team, and add the diploma or prescribing course you have started or plan to take.
How do I show a pre-registration or foundation year?
Give it its own entry, with the trust or employer, dates and the specialties you covered. Add one or two bullets on a project or audit. Once you have a few years of registered practice, shorten it to two lines.
Should I list locum work?
Yes, and group it under one heading with the date range, the number of branches and the settings you covered. Add a sentence on the systems you used. Employers like to see that you adapt quickly, but they also check for clear dates and references.
