Social Media Manager, organic, community and paid social
London, UK
Profile
Social media manager with six years of experience across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube for UK food and lifestyle brands. I plan content calendars, lead a small content team, run community moderation and manage paid social budgets. I report on engagement rate, reach, cost per click and revenue from social, not follower counts alone. Looking for a senior social media manager role at a consumer brand.

Why this Social Media Manager CV works: what shortlisters check first
Engagement and reach, with context
Followers on their own mean little. Hiring managers want engagement rate, reach, video views, saves and shares, and the time it took. Give the starting figure and the end figure, and say which channel and content type drove the change. A jump in engagement rate from 2.1% to 4.3% says more than a bare follower count.
Links to traffic and sales
Brands increasingly ask social to prove its value. Show clicks, sign-ups, bookings or orders traced back to social, and explain how you tracked them, for example UTM tags and GA4. If you manage paid social, name the budget, the platforms and the cost per result or return on ad spend (ROAS).
Platform fluency
Name the channels you have run and what you did on each. TikTok and Instagram Reels need different skills from LinkedIn thought leadership or community moderation on Facebook groups. Mention scheduling and analytics tools, such as Sprout Social, Later, Buffer or Hootsuite, and the creative tools you use for short video.
Community and brand safety
Social managers speak for the brand in public. Show how you handle comments, complaints and sensitive moments: response times, escalation and tone of voice guidelines you wrote. One line about handling a crisis or a product problem tells an employer you will not need constant supervision.
Content you can point to
Recruiters often check the accounts you manage. Make sure the public work is tidy, and link a portfolio or a few examples with the results next to them. For confidential or agency work, describe the campaign and result without sharing client names that you are not allowed to name.
Key skills recruiters look for
How to write each section of a Social Media Manager CV
Profile
Give years, the sectors and channels you know, your team and budget, and the metrics you report on. Add a headline result and the kind of brand you want to work for. Avoid 'social media guru' and similar labels.
Experience
Start each role with the brand, the channels and the team around you. Use three to five bullets with an action, a platform and a result: followers, engagement rate, views, cost per purchase or orders. Always add the time period.
Skills
Split into platforms, paid, analytics and creative tools. List only what you use weekly. Match the advert's terms, such as Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads, GA4 and Sprout Social. Leave out old networks nobody asks about.
Portfolio
Include a link to a short deck or page showing three campaigns with the brief, the content and the numbers. Keep it current. If you cannot share client work, show a personal or volunteer account where you did the same job.
Certifications and courses
Meta and TikTok certificates show platform knowledge, but they matter less than results. Give the exact name and year, and keep the list short. Courses in analytics, copywriting or video editing can sit beside them.
More example bullet points
Strong Social Media Manager CVs lead with measurable impact. Here are examples of the kind of bullets that make recruiters stop scrolling:
Grew Instagram following from 5K to 85K in 12 months through consistent content strategy and community engagement
Managed $15K/month paid social budget achieving 2.8x ROAS across TikTok and Instagram campaigns
Created viral TikTok series averaging 500K views per video, driving 30% of new website traffic
Common Social Media Manager CV mistakes
- Quoting follower growth only, with no engagement rate, reach or link to sales.
- Describing the job as 'posting content and replying to comments' without strategy, budget or results.
- Claiming viral results from one video without showing the sustained performance of the account.
- Listing every social network instead of the three or four where you have real results.
- Linking personal accounts that do not match the professional image the CV describes.

Social Media Manager CV FAQ
What should a social media manager CV include?
A profile with your years, channels and sectors, then experience showing engagement rate, reach, paid results and links to traffic or sales. Add tools, a portfolio link and any platform certificates. Two pages is enough, with the strongest results on page one.
Which social media metrics belong on a CV?
Engagement rate, reach, video views, link clicks, conversions and, for paid work, cost per result and ROAS. Follower growth is fine as long as it comes with the period and an engagement figure. Always say which platform each number belongs to.
Do I need a degree to be a social media manager?
No. Many UK social managers have degrees in media, marketing or communications, but employers care more about results and a portfolio. Start with a strong account of your own work if you have little paid experience, and explain what you learned from the numbers.
Should I include personal accounts on my CV?
Only if the content is professional and shows relevant skills, such as a niche account you grew with clear numbers. Recruiters will look, so check the privacy settings. A portfolio page with campaign examples is usually safer than a link to a personal feed.
How do I show results from agency work under NDA?
Describe the sector and size of the client rather than naming it, for example 'a restaurant group with 12 sites', and give the results. If you can show the work in an interview, say so. Ask the client or your agency for permission before sharing names.
