Best Free ATS Resume Checkers Compared (2026)
Free ATS resume checkers compared: what each one scans, what sits behind a signup or paywall, and what its own page says about ATS scores. Read 19 Oct 2026.
The best free ATS resume checker is the one that tells you what a parser would fail to read and doesn't ask for much in return. Six are compared below, each linked to the vendor's own page with the date we read it. One caveat comes from Enhancv itself: its page says there is no such thing as an ATS score, so treat every number here as that tool's opinion, ours included.
The number matters less than what produced it. A checker that flags a two-column layout is telling you something real. A checker that says 82 is telling you how it weighted its own checks.
Disclosure: we build NextCV, and its checker is one of the six. This comparison rests on what each vendor publishes on its own pages. We did not run CVs through any competitor's checker, so we say nothing here about how accurate their scoring is. Where a page blocked us or left a question open, the table says so.
How we compared them
For each tool we read its checker page and, where one exists, its pricing page on 19 October 2026. We recorded:
- What it says it checks. The vendor's own count and wording, quoted where it matters.
- What is free. Only what the page itself states, and whether an account stands between you and the result.
- Whether it needs a job ad. Some checkers score the file alone. Others only make sense against a posting.
Vendors change pages often and some show different prices by country, so treat everything below as the page on that date.
The short version
| Tool | What it says it checks | Free, per its own page | Source, date read |
|---|---|---|---|
| NextCV (ours) | Eight categories: structure, contact details, dates, length, bullets, ATS formatting, conventions, and keywords when you add a job ad. Deterministic, no AI | Free, no signup. Nothing you paste or upload is stored | nextcv.net/en/cv-check, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Rezi | "23 critical ATS checkpoints", from file type and font size to section headers | The checker page says the Rezi Score and issue breakdown are free. The pricing table marks Rezi Score "Limited" on Free and "Full" on Pro ($29 per month, or $149 lifetime) | rezi.ai/resume-checker and rezi.ai/pricing, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Enhancv | "27 crucial checks" across seven categories | A free check. A paid tier "goes deeper" into how a human would read the resume | enhancv.com/resources/resume-checker, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Resume Worded | A score out of 100 with line-by-line feedback from "30+ checks" | The page is headed "Free Resume Review". It states no limits, and we are not quoting a price | resumeworded.com, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Kickresume | "More than 20 different checks" that simulate an ATS scan | The page states a free checker only for verified students and teachers. Plans list at €24 per month (EUR), shown at €19.20 for the first month under a limited-time 20% discount | kickresume.com/en/ats-resume-checker and kickresume.com/en/pricing, 19 Oct 2026 |
| Jobscan | "30+ checks across five categories", plus a Match Rate against a job description you paste | Calls its scanner free, but the "Scan Your Resume Free" button goes to an account signup page. Pricing not verifiable on 19 Oct 2026 | jobscan.co/ats-resume-checker, read 19 Oct 2026 through a reader proxy because a direct request returned HTTP 403 |
The counts in the second column are not comparable. Each vendor decides what counts as one check, so "27" does not beat "23".
The six, one at a time
NextCV (ours)
NextCV's free CV checker is an ATS-readiness check. It scores a pasted or uploaded CV out of 100 for format and structure across eight categories, and adds keywords when you give it a job ad. It is deterministic: the same text always gets the same result, with no AI in the loop. It is unlimited, needs no signup, works in English, Swedish and French, and the page states that nothing you paste or upload is stored.
Its own disclaimer calls these heuristic checks, not a promise of how any employer's system will treat your file. It is a checker, not a rewriter: it tells you what is wrong and leaves the fixing to you.
Rezi
Rezi's checker page describes 23 ATS checkpoints and a prioritized report, with high-impact formatting and keyword problems marked in red. Its FAQ says the checker is free and that you get a Rezi Score and a detailed issue breakdown at no charge, after which you land on a personalized dashboard. The pricing table is more careful: Rezi Score is "Limited" on the free plan and "Full" on Pro. Read both pages before assuming the free report is the whole report. Rezi's pricing page also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee on all plans.
Enhancv
Enhancv describes 27 checks in seven categories, including ATS essentials such as file format and size, header links and date consistency. It is the most candid of the six about what a score is. Its page says: "Keep in mind that there's no such thing as an ATS score – no tool online that provides a score gives an actual score." By its own description, the score rests on two things: the percentage of your content its parser can read, and the issues the checker finds. The paid version moves into how a human would judge the resume.
Resume Worded
Resume Worded promises a score out of 100 with line-by-line feedback drawn from "the 30+ checks recruiters actually use". Its page also sells a job-ad layer, where a pasted posting shows "every keyword you match, and every one you are missing". The page gives no free-tier limits, so we can't say what you get before the paywall.
Kickresume
Kickresume says its checker runs more than 20 checks to "simulate a real Applicant Tracking System scan", and its page acknowledges that "many different ATSs" rate slightly different things. That is the opposite emphasis from Enhancv's, and both can be partly right. The one place the page says free is a student and teacher offer, so we would not call the general checker free. The 14-day money-back guarantee applies to its paid plans.
Jobscan
Jobscan is a different kind of tool: you paste a job description and get a Match Rate for that role, with formatting and keyword gaps on top. That makes it useful once you have a target posting and less useful as a quick check of a finished file. We could not read its pricing page on 19 October 2026, so we are quoting no price. Check what the free scan includes before you rely on it.
What a checker can and can't tell you
A checker can tell you the file has a structural problem a parser is likely to trip on: columns, text in boxes or images, odd headings, missing or inconsistent dates, no contact details. Those findings are concrete and cheap to fix.
It can't tell you what a particular employer's system will do with the file. The vendors don't agree with each other on that, as the Enhancv and Kickresume pages show. So read the flagged problems, fix the ones that stop text being read, and don't chase 100. For how the systems work underneath, see How ATS systems actually work.
Which one to pick
- You want a structural check of a finished file with no account. NextCV (ours) is built for exactly that. Rezi and Enhancv score the file alone too, so run two if you want a second opinion.
- You are applying to one specific role. Jobscan and Resume Worded take a posting and report keyword gaps. Add the ad only if you plan to edit the CV for that role. To match your CV against a specific ad on NextCV, use the job match tool.
- You want to know what the paid tier adds. Rezi, Enhancv and Kickresume each describe a deeper paid layer. Read their pricing pages first, since the free report is not always the full one. For how NextCV and Rezi compare on price and tailoring, see the Rezi alternative comparison.
After the check
A checker finds problems and stops there. If you would rather have the CV rewritten for each posting, NextCV's tailoring starts at $3 for one application, with $19 for 15 and $39 for 50. Credits are one-time, with no subscription. For that side of the market, see the best AI resume tailoring tools compared. If a free check is all you need, run your CV through the checker and fix what it flags first.
