Why this Marketing Manager CV works: what shortlisters check first

Revenue metrics, not activity

Marketing directors look for pipeline, revenue, CAC, return on ad spend (ROAS), conversion rates and payback, rather than impressions and followers. Tie each number to a budget and a period. If your work sits at the top of the funnel, show how it fed sales through marketing qualified leads and the share accepted by sales.

Budget and team ownership

State how large a budget you manage, the channels it covers and the size of your team, including agencies and freelancers. A manager who controls £420,000 across six channels is read differently from one running one channel. Say who you report to, as that shows how close you were to commercial decisions.

Channel depth with real tool names

Name the platforms you run, such as Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, GA4, Google Tag Manager, HubSpot, Klaviyo or Semrush. Show which channels you have actually led and which you only briefed. A generalist CV is fine, but it should still show one or two channels where your results are strongest.

Testing and measurement habits

Strong marketing managers test, measure and stop what does not work. Mention A/B tests, attribution set-up, tracking fixes and the decisions your data led to, such as moving budget between channels. Employers also care that you can build a clean GA4 and CRM set-up, because poor tracking makes every number unreliable.

Qualifications named exactly

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) offers qualifications from a Level 3 Foundation Certificate to a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma, and Chartered Marketer is a membership status rather than a qualification. List the exact title and level you hold. Platform certificates like Google Ads Search are useful extras, but they do not replace results.

How to write each section of a Marketing Manager CV

Profile

Give years, sector, budget and team size in the first two lines, then the channels you lead and one headline result. State the role you want next. Avoid 'creative and strategic thinker' unless the rest of the page proves it.

Experience

Open each job with the business and your budget. Write three to five bullets using this order: action, channel or tool, number. Use pipeline, CAC, ROAS, conversion rate and organic traffic, with the period and the starting figure.

Skills

Keep to tools and disciplines you could be tested on. Group by channel, analytics and management if the list is long. Match the adverts: GA4, HubSpot, Meta Ads, SEO and so on. Drop outdated tools.

Qualifications

List your degree and any CIM level with the exact name. Add platform certificates with the year, because Google and Meta certificates need renewing. If you are studying towards the next CIM level, say which one and when.

Portfolio and links

A link to campaign examples, a case study or articles you wrote can help, especially in content and brand roles. Show results next to the work. Never include confidential client figures without permission.

More example bullet points

Strong Marketing Manager CVs lead with measurable impact. Here are examples of the kind of bullets that make recruiters stop scrolling:

1

Grew organic traffic from 50K to 300K monthly visits through content strategy and technical SEO program

2

Managed $500K annual paid media budget achieving 3.2x ROAS across Google, Meta, and LinkedIn channels

3

Built email nurture sequence converting 18% of trial users to paid, up from 6% baseline

Common Marketing Manager CV mistakes

  • Reporting vanity metrics such as impressions and followers with no link to leads or revenue.
  • Naming a budget or result with no period, starting point or channel.
  • Listing every platform you have logged into, instead of the ones you can run.
  • Claiming 'Chartered Marketer' status when you hold a CIM qualification, which is a different thing.
  • Taking credit for an agency's or team's result without saying what you personally decided or did.

Marketing Manager CV FAQ

What should a marketing manager CV include?

A profile with years, sector, budget and team size, then experience with results such as pipeline, CAC, ROAS and conversion rates. Add your tools, qualifications like CIM and platform certificates, and keep it to two pages. Put the best numbers on the first page.

Which marketing metrics should I put on my CV?

Use the ones that link to revenue: marketing-sourced pipeline, customer acquisition cost, return on ad spend, conversion rate, lead-to-customer rate and organic sign-ups. Always give the period and where you started, so a reader can judge the change.

Do I need a CIM qualification to be a marketing manager?

No, but it helps in some sectors and with traditional employers. CIM offers levels from Foundation Certificate to Postgraduate Diploma. Many managers get hired on results and tool skills alone. If you hold a CIM award, list its exact title and level.

Are Google Ads and GA4 certifications worth listing?

Yes, as a short line. Google Ads Search certification shows you know the platform, but it expires and is easy to get. Put the year next to it, and let your ROAS and pipeline figures carry the weight.

How do I show marketing results if I worked in a small team?

Be specific about your share: the channels you ran, the budget you controlled and the change in a metric while you did. Small teams often make a hiring manager more confident that you can own results, so say what you decided yourself.
