Programme Manager CV Example & Template
A complete two-page CV for a UK programme manager who runs a portfolio of linked projects in financial services, followed by what hiring directors check first. Use the layout, then replace the budgets, benefits and stakeholder details with your own, since a programme is judged on outcomes and not on how many meetings you ran.

Why this Program Manager CV works: what shortlisters check first
Scale: budget, people and duration
A programme manager role is placed by size. State the total budget, the number of projects or workstreams, the people involved and the duration. A £14m programme with six workstreams is a different hire from a £500,000 change effort. Give figures for each role, so the reader can see how your scope has grown.
Benefits delivered, not only outputs
Programmes exist to deliver benefits, so show what changed for the business: savings, revenue, risk reduced or service levels improved. Give the benefit, the baseline and the result. Delivering on time and on budget is expected, but the benefits register is what sets a programme manager apart from a project manager.
Governance and senior stakeholders
Say who you reported to and how often: a board, a steering group or a sponsor. Describe how you handled disagreements, escalations and change control. Hiring directors want someone who can hold an executive's attention, give bad news early and keep decisions on record.
Method and certification
Name your frameworks, such as MSP for programmes, PRINCE2 or agile at project level, and say how you apply them. A certificate helps, but the interview will test practice. If you hold MSP, state the level, Foundation or Practitioner, and show where you used it, for example in benefits or governance.
Sector, supplier and regulatory experience
Regulated sectors such as banking, insurance and health want people who know the rules. Mention the regulators you worked with, the contracts you managed and the type of supplier relationship. Show that you can steer a programme through audits, compliance and procurement without losing time.

How to write each section of a Program Manager CV
Profile
Give your years in delivery, years running programmes, sector, largest budget and certification. End with the level you want next, such as senior programme manager or head of portfolio. Keep to four sentences and avoid generic leadership adjectives.
Experience
Start each role with the budget, duration, team size and sponsor level. Then use three to five bullets that show benefits, cost, schedule, suppliers and governance. Use named methods only where you applied them.
Skills
List the capabilities a director would test: benefits management, governance, suppliers, risk and reporting. Add tools such as Jira, Microsoft Project or Planview if they feature in the advert. Keep soft skills to a minimum and prove them in bullets.
Certifications
State the certificate, the awarding body and the year. Keep it short and place it near the profile if the job asks for it.
Cover letter
Explain which of the company's current changes you could help with, such as a core system replacement or a regulatory deadline. Add one result of yours of similar size. Senior roles are hired on judgement, so show that you understand their problem.
More example bullet points
Strong Program Manager CVs lead with measurable impact. Here are examples of the kind of bullets that make recruiters stop scrolling:

Managed portfolio of 14 concurrent projects totaling $18M budget with zero critical-path escalations across 18-month delivery window
Implemented program governance framework reducing executive escalations by 60% and improving milestone completion rate from 68% to 91%

Common Program Manager CV mistakes
- Presenting a large project as a programme without showing multiple workstreams or benefits.
- Giving a budget but not saying whether you owned it or only reported on it.
- Listing methods and certificates with no example of using them.
- Describing duties like 'managed stakeholders' instead of decisions you secured or conflicts you resolved.
- Hiding failed or late work, when interviewers ask how you recovered a programme that slipped.

Program Manager CV FAQ
What should a programme manager CV include?
A short profile, experience with budget, team size, benefits and governance for each programme, certifications such as MSP, tools and education. Keep it to two pages, and put the largest and most recent programme first with the clearest figures.
What is the difference between a programme manager and a project manager CV?
A project manager CV shows delivery of one defined piece of work. A programme manager CV shows several linked projects, benefits, governance and senior stakeholders. Move from tasks and deadlines to outcomes, dependencies and how you steered a group of projects together.
Is MSP certification worth having?
It helps in public sector, financial services and large corporates, where MSP is a common language. PeopleCert runs the MSP exams at Foundation and Practitioner level. It supports an application but does not replace evidence of delivered programmes.
How do I show benefits on a CV?
State the benefit, the baseline and the result: for example, claim handling time cut from 11 to 7 days, or £6.2m a year in savings tracked. Say who confirmed the figure, such as finance, because benefits claimed by the programme alone are often challenged.
How do I move from project manager to programme manager?
Take on a larger scope: lead several linked projects, own a benefits case or report to a steering group. Show that you handled dependencies and senior stakeholders. A programme management certificate adds weight, but your record of outcomes matters most.
